Sunday Morning Adult Classes

Beginnings: God’s Mission for the World - Studies in Genesis

On Sunday mornings, our sermons and classes are traveling together through the book of Genesis, exploring the theme of beginnings. As Northlake celebrates our 50th anniversary and prepares for a new facility, the challenge to think about new beginnings is before us. In our study of the events of God's work of creation and of God's initiating activity in the relationships of Genesis, we have a great opportunity to reflect on God’s work through history and ask how it should inform and shape our own journey in these days.

Young Adults
Our Young Adults Class includes both single and married adults that are generally in their 20's and 30's.

Growing Families
The Growing Families class includes members mainly in their 40’s and 50’s, most of whom have children in the kids and youth programs, as well as college and beyond..

Prime Timers
The Prime Timers Class includes members mainly in their 50's and beyond, including many "empty-nesters"

Parlor Class
The Parlor Class includes many of our "young at heart," including many of our most senior members. The class places great emphasis on lively discussion.

College Class: "A Church for Today, A Church for Tomorrow?"

Our college group will spend time on Sunday mornings exploring their life in the church, exploring questions about how we can position ourselves as a church to reach the next generation with the good news of Christ.

Threshold

This class focuses on basic Bible study for new Christians and for our immigrant community. We provide a rich community of discussion and support to help introduce people to faith and to the loving community of Northlake.

Front Porch Class

The Front Porch is an alternative to traditional Sunday School formats. It includes members from various ages and life stations, and is designed to foster community by caring for each other and letting the needs of the members shape the content of the time together.

Sunday Evening Adult Classes

Chapel Service

Our chapel service involves a worship service with preaching that covers a wide array of topics, and involves various members in the leadership.

Growing Up With Your Kids & Teens

Being a parent is a challenge – you may say that's one of the bigger understatements you've heard lately! But what if we could see parenting not so much as a – sometimes painful – challenge, but primarily as an ... opportunity?

Starting March 16, we want to explore how we can form, or trans-form, our interactions with our children to reflect how that relationship most truly should be seen, as a gift from God. This class will not be the typical "information and skills" type of parenting training but will instead focus on the spiritual issues of parenthood and will include plenty of discussion.

Small Groups

There are a number of small groups that meet both at the building and in various homes. Download our latest education brochure at the building or call the church office to find out more about our small group ministry. You are always welcome to join any of our groups. Here are a few to give you a flair:

Parents Uplifting Parents
This group seeks to provide support for encouragement for parents, with a particular emphasis on parents of teenagers.

Women' Group
This group is currently studying Stepping Up: A Study of the Psalms of Ascsent, by Beth Moore.

Young Adult's Group
This group of 20 and 30-somethings includes singles and married, both with and without children. We meet in various homes, and are currently studying Money, Possessions and Eternity, by Randy Alcorn.

Wednesday Night Adult Classes

Christian Faith in Our World

Abraham Kuyper, a Dutch theologian from the late 19th and early 20th century, is famous for this statement: “There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry: 'Mine!'” His call pushes against our temptation to artificially divide our lives into the “sacred” and the “secular,” looking to parse our existence into the areas where our faith is relevant and the areas where it isn’t. Instead, the call on the Christian is to live out a faith that breathes in every dimension of our lives.

Even if we believe this, though, living this out can be challenging. In this class, many of our members will challenge us to consider the ways in which faith lives in a number of dimensions in our lives. While the areas we will explore will be diverse, from work to aging, the world of the youth to our role in government, the question that will drive us is the same: How does the Lordship of Christ make a difference in this dimension of my life? I hope you’ll join us for this exciting journey!
